In May 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will be active and affecting big companies as well as small businesses. This regulation reminds both organizations and individuals of the importance of data privacy, which means that we need to fully understand the components and stipulations around their data protection practices. Trend Micro and DLA Piper are organizing a webinar where you’ll discover all about the changes and how to put them into practice.

Data privacy is hot and trending, mostly due to the restrictions that the EU Commission will apply to the usage of data. Companies are required to give more serious thought into preparing for the budget, compliance and other necessary adjustments, because of the GDPR. On January 10th the EU Commission published a package of documents, including the European Data Economy, data protection end e-privacy. This package incorporates new provisions and proposals, aligned with the GDPR, which makes it even more urgent for businesses to comply.

Who does this apply to?

In short: all businesses. No matter the size or location of the company. SMBs are allowed some exceptions, such as maintaining a record of processed activities, and EU member states can determine if SMBs should designate a Data Protection Officer (DPO). But in general, if your company activities are related to the offering of goods or services to individuals in the EU, or the monitoring of individuals’ behavior within the EU, then the GDPR will apply. Adapting quickly will give you and your company the advantage of the certainty of data transfers and collection.
