DHL Supply Chain, the US company, decided to automate warehouses by deploying 1000 autonomous robots in 12 locations across North America. These robots, designed by start-up Locus Robotics, will make it easier to work in warehouses alongside humans.

DHL Supply Chain and Locus Robotics have been partners since 2017 and this change is part of a global strategy that DHL began in 2018. A $300 million investment and a digital transformation plan have resulted in a development based on 14 target technologies. Of these, half involve collaborative robotics solutions.

These robots reduce the time spent on routine or physically demanding tasks as they navigate autonomously through warehouses to quickly locate and transport items useful to associates.

They do not require any special set-up, making them easy to use and less expensive.
