The next Hack4Kids will take place during the BBQ Game Jam on September 5th, 2015, at the Technoport in Esch Belval.
The BBQ Game Jam gathers video game creators, ranging from hobbyists to professionals, who will have 24 hours to create innovative games based on a specific theme. This event will allow game creators to share their passion, creativity and innovative mind. The teams will be made of 1 to 5 jammers.
The Hack4Kids will take place on the Saturday afternoon from 14h00 to 17h30 and will essentially address children who have already gained a first experience in Scratch. “We are happy to be able to organise this new edition during the Game Jam. The idea this time is to have up to 7 groups of 5 to 6 kids. Each group will create an animated short scratch story with original code, graphics and sound. The music will be part of the challenge. The kids are required ideally to have at least participated to a previous Hack4Kids session or have some basic knowledge of Scratch. So this session builds on our previous four workshops during which we taught the basics of coding”, explains Matthieu Farcot from SECURITYMADEIN.LU.
The focus of this 5th Hack4Kids edition will be on creativity. Children will decide within the group the kind of technique they wish to use in order to generate the best code. They will also have the opportunity to see and exchange with real world game developers participating in the adult game jam.
The Hack4Kids concept was started by SECUIRTYMADEIN.LU, with the support of CIRCL and the CodeClub. The mission is to promote coding and at the same time educate young children (approx. 7 to 12 years old) about information technologies in order to raise understanding and general knowledge about new tools and trends. Another key objective is to contribute to the development of the next generation’s ICT talents, e-skills and entrepreneurs.
Hack4Kids is all about curiosity, creativity, willingness to explore new things and technologies by oneself.
